Baths Beat Out Kitchens For 2013’s Top Remodeling Project

In celebration of National Home Remodeling Month this May, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) recently released its quarterly Remodeling Market Index (RMI). The results showed that bathrooms were the most common remodeling project in 2013, slightly edging out kitchens.

72 percent of remodelers who responded to the RMI survey in the fourth quarter of 2013 said their most common jobs were bathroom remodels, with 70 percent citing kitchens as their top jobs. Ever since the survey was established in 2001, bathrooms and kitchens have been vying for top spot on the most popular remodeling projects list. However, bathroom remodels have remained in first place since 2009.

Some other common remodel projects for NAHB remodelers in 2013 include:

  • Windows/doors replacement- 40 percent
  • Room additions- 35 percent
  • Decks- 25 percent
  • Siding- 22 percent
