As the housing industry prepares for the first big push in the building season, the number of open, unfilled construction jobs has hit the second highest level since 2007, according to a new report from the National Association of Home Builders.

The latest Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) showed that these open, unfilled jobs increased 38 percent from 113,000 in January 2013 to 156,000 in January 2014.

BLS also issued an establishment survey in conjunction with JOLTS that showed total employment in the homebuilding industry stands at 2.227 million for February 2014. That overall figure was further broken down as 648,000 builders and 1.579 million residential specialty trade contractors. As a result of BLS’s data from both surveys, the home building industry has seen the addition of 101,000 new jobs over the last year.
