National Fire Prevention Week Ignites Discussion of LP FlameBlock

This week, the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) kicks off their annual National Fire Prevention Week, the longest running public health and safety observance on record.

When most people think about fire prevention, devices like smoke alarms or fire extinguishers come to mind. As we know here at LP, fire prevention efforts can also start in the framing of the home. Engineered wood products like LP FlameBlock offer both flame-spread resistance and burn-through resistance.

LP FlameBlock’s fire-resistant coating bonded to LP® OSB allows for a fifteen-minute thermal barrier (UBC 26-2) and slows the spread of flame and heat. Beyond the flame-spread resistance, LP FlameBlock has no hazardous chemicals, which is often a major concern for firefighters and first responders.

According to reports released from the NFPA, one structure fire was reported every 64 seconds in 2014. There are a number of safety measures that should be taken into account when lowering the devastating impact of fires, and LP FlameBlock can be an important part of the solution.
