LP Mills Win 2013 APA Safety and Health Awards
The 2013 winners of the APA Safety and Health Awards were recently announced and LP Building Products made the list. Through this award program, APA — The Engineered Wood Association encourages and honors manufacturers in the structural panel and engineered wood industry for safety strides and operational excellence in North America.
Several LP mills were given a Safety and Health award, but the outpost in Sagola, MI, won a coveted ‘Innovation in Safety Award.’ The mill’s unique “Log Jam Pusher” equipment innovation took top honors out of 30 entries. Prototyped and tested by Sagola mill staff on site, the new “Log Jam Pusher” significantly reduces the risk to operators while removing large or crooked logs from a chain conveyance system.
In addition to the ‘Innovation in Safety Award’, LP mills earned awards across every category, including:
- Safest Company Awards
- Annual Safety and Health Honor Roll
- Three-Year Safety Award
- Safety Improvement Award (LP’s mill in Lautaro, Chile saw 100 percent improvement according to the APA.)
- Incident Free Honor Society
