WoodWorks’ National Symposium Will Serve as a Kickoff for Building Competition

WoodWorks — Wood Products Council will host a National Symposium, ‘Toward Taller Wood Buildings’ in Chicago on November 6 and 7. Attendees will gain a practical perspective on North America’s evolution toward building taller wood structures, with a focus on how architects and designers are already using the International Building Code (IBC) to increase density and lower costs with taller, mid-rise buildings.

The symposium will also serve as an opportunity for design professionals to enter the U.S. Tall Wood Building Prize Competition, hosted by the White House Rural Council and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in cooperation with the Softwood Lumber Board and Binational Softwood Lumber Council.

The competition aims to showcase the architectural and commercial viability of advanced wood products in tall building construction in order to support employment opportunities in rural communities, maintain the health and resiliency of the nation's forests and advance sustainability in the building industry.

The USDA will host an onsite Q&A session about the competition during the symposium’s registration period on November 5, from 4 to 5 p.m.
