Why the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Matters

At LP, we believe that sustainability means acting in a way that protects the environment, embraces social responsibilities, and builds economic prosperity today and for future generations. Sustainability is  at the core of everything we do, which is why LP is proud to support the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).

About the Initiative

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative® Inc. is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management. SFI works at the intersection of thriving forests, sustainable communities and responsible procurement. While the group develops and oversees standards for forest management and the forest products supply chain, it’s more than a set of standards — it’s a community that stands for future forests. LP is determined to meet its current need for wood products without compromising the resources of future generations. This is why all forests directly managed by LP in North America are certified to the SFI Forest Management Standard and managed in accordance with long-term forest management plans. We encourage the same practices for forest lands where we source materials but don’t own or directly manage the land. LP is certified to the SFI Fiber Sourcing Standard, which sets mandatory requirements for the responsible procurement of fiber from the forest, whether the forest is certified or not, and to the SFI Chain of Custody Standard, which tracks the various sources of forest fiber through the different stages of production.

Buy a Shed Made with SFI-Certified Wood

Not all wood is SFI-certified. When you buy a shed built with products made from wood certified to the SFI Standard from LP® Outdoor Building Solutions®, you are making a responsible decision. With your purchase, you are:
  • Helping to improve global forest management.
  • Promoting science and research to improve forestry practices.
  • Protecting lands with ecological, geological and historical significance.
  • Supporting the rights of workers and local communities.
  • Helping to grow forests, sustain communities, fund conservation research, educate youth and train loggers.
The SFI label on LP products helps you to know you’re sourcing materials from responsibly managed forests.
