If you’re a contractor, you know that working with fiber cement siding requires expensive tools. Save yourself time and money by choosing to install LP® SmartSide® Trim and Siding.
Tools of the Trade
Installing fiber cement siding is a highly specialized process, which means you can’t do it with everyday tools. You’ll need to invest in an array of extra equipment. Because fiber cement is made of – you guessed it – cement, it’s a challenge to cut cleanly and creates a lot of silica dust when cut. If you were to regularly install this siding product, you would need:
- Fiber cement shears (stationary and handheld)
- Shear attachment
- Plank and trim cutter
- Circular saw with dust collector
- Carbide or diamond-tipped saw blades
- Fiber cement hand snips
- Fiber cement notcher
- Siding nail cutter
- Shop vacuum
Standard Tools, Faster Installation With Engineered Wood
In contrast, LP SmartSide siding cuts like traditional wood and installs using common framing tools, so you don’t have to keep spending money on expensive tools and saw blades. Installers can use the same woodworking tools that they frame the house with to install LP SmartSide trim and siding. In addition, LP SmartSide siding is engineered to be strong and lighter weight for easier installation with less breakage. This lighter weight means one piece can be carried and installed by one worker, rather than the two required when transporting and installing fiber cement.
Another benefit for installers is the longer lengths of LP SmartSide engineered cedar lap siding. The 16-foot lengths go up faster than the standard 12-foot fiber cement panel, making the job easier and leaving behind fewer seams and joints on the wall.
