LP WeatherLogic® Air & Water Barrier Installation Instructions
Designed to keep water out and energy in, LP WeatherLogic panels contribute to a tighter building envelope, and the LP WeatherLogic installation process is just like that of regular sheathing. Create a more energy-efficient home with Moisture Management Technology for a Better Build™—now APA Structural I Rated Sheathing for wall and roof applications.
Before You Begin
Keep these tips in mind to help your installation of LP WeatherLogic Air & Water Barrier go smoothly and to keep the product in great shape.
Store panels off the ground on a well-supported flat surface under wrap or a roof
Do not stack higher than 4 units, and space units at least 6˝ apart on all sides
Place weather-resistant cover on unused panels; keep all panels clean and dry
Store LP WeatherLogic Seam & Flashing Tape and LP WeatherLogic Seam & Flashing Sealant indoors
Inspect panels, ensuring they are free of imperfections, dirt and dust
Step By Step: Wall Installation
Step 1
Prepare Your Panels
Install the panels with the water-resistive barrier facing outward. Be advised to place tape or apply sealant carefully. During installation, the tape may be immediately peeled back once to reposition.
Step 2
Space Panel Edges
Space all panel edges 1/8˝. Install WRB panels vertically or horizontally.
Step 3
Attach Panels to Wall Studs
In the absence of project specifications, nail panels 6˝ on center along supported ends and edges and 12˝ on center at intermediate supports. Fasten panels 3/8˝ from panel edges. Use 6d common nails for panels up to 1/2˝ thick, 8d common nails for panels up to 5/8˝ thick.
Step 4
Seal with LP WeatherLogic Seam & Flashing Tape or LP WeatherLogic Seam & Flashing Sealant
Use the tape or liquid-applied sealant to cover seams between adjacent panel edges. If you are using WeatherLogic tape, clean and fully dry surface before taping, center the tape over the seam, and use one continuous piece of tape where possible. Use squeegee to seal fully and complete your WRB install.
For sealant, first apply a bead of sealant into the seam. Then apply either a bead in a zig‐zag pattern across the panel seam or in two straight beads about half an inch on either side of seam. Use a putty knife, spatula or another dry tool to smooth the sealant, being careful not to remove or gouge the sealant.
Step by Step: Roof Installation
Step 1
Prepare Your Panels
LP WeatherLogic panels must be installed horizontally on roofs with the long direction across the roof trusses/rafters for at least two spans. Install only on roofs with a 2/12 pitch or greater.
Step 2
Space Panel Edges and Provide Support
Space all panel edges 1/8”. Be mindful of 7/16 Performance Category panels. If these panels span more than 16”, they require the unsupported panel edges to be blocked or for H-clips to be installed midway between roof trusses/rafters.
Step 3
Attach Panels to Roof Trusses or Rafters
In the absence of project specifications, nail panels 6 ̋ on center along panel edges and 12 ̋ on center at in the field of the panel. Fasten panels 3/8 ̋ from panel edges. Use 8d common nails for panels up to 5/8” thick; use 10d common nails for panels up to 1-1/4 ̋ thick.
Step 4
Seal With LP WeatherLogic Seam & Flashing Tape
Follow typical LP WeatherLogic taping instructions for straight ends and edges. For ridges, hips and valleys, use the recommended 6” tape. Center tape on ridge, hip or valley and adhere on each side. Use squeegee to seal fully and complete your WRB install
