LP® SmartSide® Trim & Siding recently ran a month-long “Show Us Your LP SmartSide” Contest asking home building industry professionals to submit images of their best projects using LP SmartSide siding products.
Winners were selected by the LP SmartSide team based on proper installation of products, uniqueness of the build and design, and overall exterior aesthetic appeal. Out of nearly 300 entries, Chris Rendall of Prairie View Homes Inc. took home the top honor. Let’s learn more about Prairie View Homes Inc. straight from Rendall, president of the company, as well as the winning submission.

Rendall started Prairie View Homes Inc. three years ago after putting down roots in Kansas City, Missouri, following an East Coast move, where he had an established remodeling/flipping operation. Through his nearly 20 years of experience in the industry, he had always wanted to explore custom home building. When he moved to Kansas City, he decided it was time. Rendall’s winning LP SmartSide submission marks his first custom home build—a great indicator of what’s to come for his business.
When it comes to Prairie View Homes Inc., Rendall notes he takes a hands-on approach, checking the jobsites himself to ensure the attention to finish is just right. With the customer always first priority, Rendall looks for the best products he can to ensure a quality build that’ll last.
“The way we’ve built houses over the years really hasn’t changed that much,” Rendall says. “However, I’m always interested in new technology and better ways to do things. For example, real wood is a great product, but it can be unstable. Alternative materials, like LP SmartSide siding products, provide a more durable option to ensure weatherability for years to come.”
For the winning “Show Us Your LP SmartSide” submission, Rendall teamed up with designer Chris Castrop of Chris Castrop Design Group to create the modern craftsman. Featuring LP SmartSide Lap Siding and LP SmartSide Trim & Fascia, Rendall notes why LP’s engineered wood product was his go-to choice.
"There are many advantages to using LP SmartSide siding over competitive products," Rendall says. "It's much easier to achieve a quality installation with LP SmartSide products because someone experienced with wood siding and trim already has the tools and most of the know-how required. As my first time using LP SmartSide siding products, I can confidently say that if you want a lap siding look, this is a superior product.”
We’ll be highlighting the second and third place “Show Us Your LP SmartSide” winners in the coming months, so be sure to check back to learn more. We’d like to thank everyone who participated! Look out for your builds in future LP SmartSide content.
