LP Changing the Game in Latin American Market with New Production Line
LP Building Solutions recently added a new LP® SolidStart® I-Joist production line to its OSB mill in Lautaro, Chile. This new line marks the very first production of engineered wood I-joists in Latin America.
LP South American president and general manager Fredrick Price says this new I-joist line is a game changer in Chile and surrounding countries. “For the first time, we will be able to offer I-joists made of wood with OSB technology that are 100 percent made in Chile,” Price said. “We will be able to offer a constant supply of I-joists to the Latin American market,” he added. The new LP SolidStart I-Joist production line has an annual capacity of 3.8 million linear meters, or about 12.5 million feet.
Recent market research shows that the Chilean construction industry registered a growth rate of 2.8% during 2015. The country’s construction industry is expected to continue trending upward as economic recovery is paired with government investments in infrastructure, energy, utilities and affordable housing projects. With the up-tick of housing demand taking place throughout Chile, LP’s new I-joist line will be able to meet the increasing demand by offering more versatility, uniformity and stability than traditional lumber.
LP SolidStart I-Joists are engineered to out-perform traditional lumber. They will not shrink, warp or twist as they dry after installation. With the web of OSB placed between two flanges, LP SolidStart I-Joists are lighter weight than traditional lumber. Pound per pound they have a higher load bearing capacity, allowing ceilings and floors to be designed with fewer pieces thus saving on material and installation costs.
