At LP Building Solutions, building a better world is at the core of who we are. So, when we joined Military Makeover airing on Lifetime TV to renovate a home with LP® SmartSide® ExpertFinish® Trim & Siding for a deserving veteran family, we couldn’t wait to get started.
About the Military Makeover Collaboration
Hosted by talk show legend and military veteran Montel Williams, Military Makeover brings together designers, contractors, landscapers and more to offer home remodels to those who’ve served. Recently, the show featured a family from Lincolnton, North Carolina. Their ranch-style home featured vinyl siding colors and styles that hadn’t stood the test of time and were in need of refreshing.
Meet Honored Veterans Luke Harvey and Natasha Woodruff
Luke Harvey and Natasha Woodruff both served in the United States Army, medically retiring in 2014. After serving in Iraq as an infantryman, Harvey was awarded a Purple Heart and an Army Commendation with Valor. Woodruff, a geospatial engineer, was presented the Women of Courage Award by the Pentagon.
Now, Harvey and Woodruff remain “on duty” in a different way as a veteran parent team, raising their three children. The LP SmartSide and Military Makeover teams stepped in to give them the home of their dreams, making confidence in the building products a top priority. They wanted the homeowners to have peace of mind knowing that their new home not only looked incredible but would last for years to come.
That’s where LP SmartSide ExpertFinish Trim & Siding came in. Designed to provide Advanced Durability for Longer Lasting Beauty®, LP SmartSide ExpertFinish products were the perfect fit for the project.
Transforming Curb Appeal
“With old and worn vinyl siding covering the exterior, the home was in serious need of a facelift,” explains Chemeka Wachtler, LP Building Solutions Marketing Communications Manager. “With LP SmartSide ExpertFinish Trim & Siding, the home’s aesthetic was truly transformed. The durability of the products also gives us the confidence that the siding will stand the test of the time.”
As one of the most durable siding solutions on the market, LP SmartSide ExpertFinish siding also features a collection of popular siding hues that reflect trending exterior house colors. The designer for Military Makeover, Jennifer Bertrand, loved the color selection and the siding’s wood-grain texture. She called the better curb appeal offered by LP SmartSide ExpertFinish products “one of the loveliest gifts we could give our recipient family.”
Durability That Endures
In addition to bringing a beautiful new look to the family’s home, durable siding made from engineered wood offers impact, water, pest and weather resistance, standing up to everything from everyday bumps and bruises to termites and strong storms. Wachtler explains, “Moisture resistance was a priority since the house is located near a lake. The location made the weather-resistant attributes of LP SmartSide ExpertFinish products particularly important when it came to siding selection.”
With the benefits of durable siding, LP SmartSide ExpertFinish Trim & Siding gave the homeowners the look they wanted with the assurance they needed. Backed by an industry-leading limited warranty, their LP SmartSide ExpertFinish siding is covered for 5 years (full labor and replacement), 15 years (no-fade finish) and 50 years (substrate).
Making a Difference Through Peace of Mind
As the collaboration wrapped, the Military Makeover and LP SmartSide teams were honored to offer a beautiful new cladding for a deserving family’s home. Bertrand concludes, “Not only did LP SmartSide ExpertFinish products add ‘wow factor’ to the home, but we were able to give this veteran family peace of mind with an easier maintenance, prefinished product. That is one of the best gifts we could give them. Overall, I couldn't be any happier with how this project turned out for such a deserving family.”

In recent years, there have been reports of termite infestations in traditionally colder locations. If you are considering buying or building a home in an area where termites traditionally haven’t been a concern, it could be time to get ahead of their spread by considering building materials engineered to resist termite decay.
If you live or are looking to build a home in an area that’s vulnerable to seasonal hurricanes—Florida, the Gulf Coast or the Eastern Seaboard—your home’s ability to stand up to inclement weather should be a top concern, alongside wind damage to your siding.
